We invite you to a discussion: "Agriculture and the environment - in search of compromises..."
On Tuesday, September 30, at 10:00, we invite you to attend the seminar - discussion "Agriculture and the Environment - Searching for Compromises" organized by the association "Zemnieku saeima". The seminar will present the achievements made over the past 5 years in implementing the projects "Baltic Compass" and "Baltic Compact". In the discussion part, we will look to the future and together seek solutions for the development of agricultural production and environmental preservation in Latvia. The event will take place in the Kalnciema quarter, Kalnciema street 35, Riga.
Juris Cīrulis, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Association "Farmers' Council": "The Baltic Compact project has been a starting signal for the path to modern and environmentally friendly agricultural practices for 5 years. During this time, we had the opportunity to listen to the opinions of farmers and environmental representatives, as well as to jointly agree and find complex compromise decisions for future policy development. We have created recommendations and suggestions for environmentally friendly technical solutions on farms. If previously, compliance with environmental requirements seemed to farmers only as an unnecessary economic burden, then the project proved that environmentally friendly farming can pay off."
The seminar-discussion will discuss the main work done, such as the updated innovative solutions for environmental protection in agriculture, the proposed changes in legislation and policy-making principles, as well as the agri-environmental issues to be addressed in the coming years. At the end of the seminar, there will be an opportunity to watch a film "The Baltic Sea is surging", where farmers from three countries present their experiences in balancing successful farming and environmental protection. As one of the positive examples, the film includes the story of the "Larks" to the owners Juri and Vijus Cīruļi, who are the winners of this year's "Farmer of the Year in the Baltic Sea Region" competition.
