We invite you to apply for the implementation of a new product of the Lielupe River Basin Farm – composted sewage sludge – in the fields.
The Farmers' Council is looking for farms that would be interested in participating in a study and testing an organic fertilizer - sewage sludge compost - on their fields. The event is implemented within the framework of the Horizon Europe project NENUPHAR "New governance models to enhance nutrient pollution handling and nutrients recycling".
We especially encourage farms located in Dobele region to apply, as the compost will be delivered from Liepāja. Preference will be given to specialized crop farms that have not used organic fertilizer for a long time, but which have the opportunity to incorporate compost into the soil. Project experts will help develop a fertilization plan based on a specially developed methodology and will monitor all processes in soil and water for the safe use of sewage sludge compost.
Composting sewage sludge is one of the ways to obtain high-quality organic fertilizer, which is not yet popular enough in Latvia, but could be a good and affordable fertilizer for farms where other types of organic fertilizer are not available. In addition, the amount of sewage sludge is constantly increasing, and its composting and use in agriculture helps to successfully utilize it.
