We invite you to attend the seminar "On and around rural roads"

On Saturday, October 13, the association “Farmers' Council” invites you to attend a seminar and discussion “About and around rural roads…”. The seminar will take place at the Rāmava exhibition complex. Starts at 2:00 p.m.

Juris Lazdins, Chairman of the Association “Farmers’ Council”: “For farmers and any rural resident, one of the most important issues is infrastructure, including rural roads. In order to ensure the efficient operation of companies – to deliver the necessary raw materials for production to the farm and to deliver the produced product to consumers, buyers, high-quality rural roads are vital. Roads are also necessary for rural people to take their children to school, get to the doctor or solve other everyday issues. Roads are the basis for maintaining life in the countryside. However, it is no secret to anyone what condition Latvia’s rural roads are in. With this seminar and discussion, we want to continue the search for solutions that have already begun – how and what each side could do to take steps towards an organized infrastructure in Latvia.”

Chairman of the Board of the State Joint Stock Company "Latvian Road Maintenance Company" Raitis Nešpors: "Almost 11,000 km of state roads are gravel-surfaced, which is 55% of the total length of state roads, so a large number of residents use them in their daily lives. Taking into account that there has been insufficient funding for gravel road repair work for a long time, these roads are in poor technical condition in many places. Therefore, we have set one of the work priorities - arranging the water drainage system for gravel roads. In general, we have created a list of several hundred road sections on which it is necessary to carry out water drainage arrangement work. Within the framework of the available funding, we will carry out these works in a planned manner every year. Primarily, arranging water drainage is planned for those road sections where road passability is difficult due to snow in autumn and spring."

In the first part of the seminar, the Chairman of the Board of the State Enterprise "Latvijas autoceļu uzturētājs" Raitis Nešpors will inform about the arrangement of the water drainage system for state roads, while the management of the State Enterprise “Latvijas Valsts ceļi” will explain the reality and future plans regarding rural roads in Latvia. The first part of the seminar will be concluded by Juris Lazdiņš, the chairman of the association “Zemnieku saeima” with a presentation: "Roads in the countryside - situation, challenges and suggestions".

The second part of the event will feature a discussion about roads and possible cooperation to improve the road situation, which will be attended by Juris Lazdiņš, Chairman of the Board of the Association “Zemnieku saeima” and Juris Cīrulis, Board Member, VAS “Latvijas autoceļu uzturētājs” Raitis Nešpors, Chairman of the Board of VAS “Latvijas Valsts ceļi” and local governments.
