We will meet with the President of the Republic on the issue of the dairy industry
Representatives of farmers' non-governmental organizations will meet with President Andris Bērziņš on November 12 to jointly discuss the situation and possible solutions in the dairy sector in Latvia.
Farmers' organizations have sent letters to both Latvian state leaders and the European Commission (EC) calling for immediate decisions to be made to provide the promised support to the Latvian dairy industry to compensate for losses incurred following the economic sanctions imposed by Russia against the European Union (EU), including Latvia.
Although support measures were immediately taken from the Latvian side, nothing more than promises to find solutions have been expected from the EC side. Therefore, further actions of Latvian officials will be discussed during the meeting, so that the EC hears the call of Latvian farmers to urgently find support for dairy farms.
