YouCooperate Latvia project meeting – study visit
On Friday, December 3, we organized an online study visit for Latvian youth and others interested in the field of agricultural cooperatives. The event was organized to replace the trips to cooperatives originally planned for the YouCooperate project. The trips were canceled due to safety reasons, but it meant that more young people could learn about the cooperative experience at the same time (more than 70 interested people applied to participate).
Before the event, educational institutions were surveyed about their interests in the topic, and it turned out that most students were interested in the experience of grain and fruit cooperatives.
The call of the Farmers' Saeima to talk about their experience with agricultural cooperatives was responded to by Zigmunds Kalniņš, Head of Agricultural Business Development at LPKS LATRAPS, and Dace Drošprāte, representative of LPKS "Augļu nams", for which we are very grateful.
In the introductory part of the event, we introduced the participants to the YouCooperate project and its activities, including the opportunity to continue studying the digital cooperatives course.
Then, Zigmunds Kalniņš used his professional experience to talk about why it is important to cooperate when creating cooperatives, about the benefits that LATRAPS offers to its members, and also introduced LATRAPS's daily work, including facts about its scope of operations and geographical coverage.
Dace Drošprāte, on the other hand, began her story with a description of her farm and then talked about joining a cooperative with other producers and the development of the cooperative. The presentation was complemented by pictures of various cooperative products.
At the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to receive individual business consultations on potential financing from various sources.
We thank the representatives of the cooperatives for their responsiveness, quality stories, and dedicated time, and we hope to meet in person in the future!
