ZSA and MEPRD agree on rural entrepreneurship development
Yesterday, on April 16, the leadership of the association "Farmers' Council" met with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MARAM) Romanas Naudiņš, and discussed issues related to business development in rural areas and their possible solutions.

During the meeting, both the leadership of the Farmers' Parliament and the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Romāns Naudiņš acknowledged that Latvia needs to create such a legislative environment so that not only farmers, but also any entrepreneur has the appropriate infrastructure to do business in the regions of Latvia.
.
As Juris Lazdiņš, chairman of the association "Farmers' Parliament", admitted: "The main infrastructure is rural roads, the improvement of which requires maximum coordination and efficient use of all available financial resources in the new planning period."
.
One of the most important issues discussed was the issue of nitrate monitoring in surface and groundwater, in order to prepare a report on water quality and eutrophication for the European Commission in 2016. If sufficient monitoring is not carried out, there is a very high possibility that after 2016 all of Latvia will be designated as an environmentally sensitive area.
.
Minister of Environment, Rural Development and Rural Development Romāns Naudiņš admitted: "This is a very important issue that has long-term consequences for Latvia. Ministry specialists will soon determine what improvements are needed to carry out nitrate monitoring in surface and groundwater in accordance with European Union requirements. We will definitely also seek solutions to the issue of developing engineering communications in the regions, which would promote production growth."
.
The necessary amendments to the Protection Zones Law were also discussed, establishing protection zones along water bodies and watercourses, as the current wording of the law is difficult to implement and control.
.
The discussion was attended by Minister of the Ministry of Rural Development and Rural Development Romāns Naudiņš, Chairman of the Farmers' Assembly Juris Lazdiņš, Deputy Chairman Maira Dzelzkalēja, Board Member Mareks Bērziņš and responsible specialists from the Ministry of Rural Development and Rural Development.
