ZSA calls on residents to follow biosecurity measures when traveling to regions affected by African swine fever
In the coming weeks, several significant events are planned in the areas affected by African swine fever, such as the hunting festival “Munhausen” in Višķi on August 1-3 or the Assumption Day in Aglona on August 15, to which a significant number of residents are planning to attend. The Association “Farmers’ Council” calls on all festival participants and visitors to the areas affected by African swine fever to observe biosecurity measures in order to reduce the possibility of further spread of this virus.
.
The Chairman of the Farmers' Parliament, Juris Lazdiņš, emphasizes: "The largest spreader of African swine fever is humans, both through purchased food, clothing or footwear, and transport. Therefore, I urge everyone, regardless of age, place of residence or occupation, to be responsible and pay increased attention to biosecurity if they attend events in an area affected by African swine fever. I urge everyone to thoroughly wash their shoes, clothing and transport tires after visiting the festival, as well as to generally assess whether the area affected by African swine fever really needs to be visited. It is important to understand that the decision to attend an event in the event of an unfortunate coincidence of circumstances can seriously affect agriculture and the national economy as a whole."
.
Similarly, the Farmers' Council calls on potential organizers of other events to assess the need to organize activities in areas affected by African swine fever, in order to reduce the possibility of spreading the virus.
.
We remind you that African swine fever is not dangerous to humans and the most up-to-date information on the spread of African swine fever, as well as recommendations for the population to reduce the spread of the disease, can be found on the website of the Food and Veterinary Service www.pvd.gov.lv.
