ZSA invites you to a seminar: How to farm efficiently and environmentally friendly

The association "Farmers' Council" invites you to a field day - a seminar "Manure and digestate management - benefits for farmers and society", which will take place this year on June 13, at the farm "Vecsiljāņi", in Bebri parish, Aizkraukle region.

Manure and digestate are organic fertilizers, the effective use and management of which is widely discussed. The effective use of nutrients in organic fertilizers is very important, as it allows the plant nutrients – nitrogen and phosphorus – to be retained in the production cycle. As a result, the farm can gain economic benefits and reduce environmental risks. At the same time, modern technologies allow to reduce such side effects of manure management as the spread of odors and road loads that arise when transporting manure to the fields.

.

Maira Dzelzkalēja, Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of the Association "Farmers' Council": "In recent years, with the development of biogas plants, society and farmers have had to get acquainted with a new organic fertilizer - digestate. Both manure and its processing product, digestate, are very valuable fertilizers that every farmer is interested in using as efficiently as possible. It is a pleasure that organic manure management technologies are developing today and are also available in Latvia. The latest technologies help not only to reduce nutrient losses during transport and application, but also significantly reduce the load on poor rural roads."

.

The seminar will provide an opportunity to learn about environmental requirements for manure and digestate management, the efficiency of digestate and liquid manure use, new manure spreading technologies, as well as learn about farmers' experience in using digestate for field fertilization.

.

As Toms Knope, the owner of the "Rudeņi" z/s, admits"There is not enough research on the use of digestate in Latvia, so all knowledge is gained from practical experience. Although I have been using digestate on the farm for 3 years, we are still experimenting and trying to find the best options. Over the years, the trials have been interesting, so I will share my experience at the seminar!"

.

Juris Sprukulis, owner of the farm "Vecsiljāņi", said: "I believe that people should be informed about digestate, because it is not a waste product, but a very valuable raw material for further useful use. At the seminar, we will discuss and share experiences on how to use it rationally to protect the environment and increase production efficiency."
