ZSA is represented at several international events this week
Maira Dzelzkalēja, Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of the Farmers' Union and Vice President of COPA, is participating in several international events in Europe this week, where she represents the interests of Latvian farmers.
A discussion/seminar took place in Milan at the beginning of the week “The structure of EU agriculture: does farm size matter?” Currently, negotiations are beginning in Europe on the planning of the Common Agricultural Policy for the period after 2020. One of the issues of the Milan discussion is most directly related to the future of the agricultural sector – whether Europe would be ready to stop agricultural support payments. The possible impact of such a step on food prices and the preservation of the competitiveness of farms, especially small ones, was discussed. Latvia's representation at such events is very important. This allows us to be present in the process of developing important changes, thus giving us the opportunity to prepare in good time and defend our country's interests.
From October 22 to 23, M. Dzelzkalēja will represent Latvian farmers at the North American and European Union Agricultural Conference: “37th North American-European Union Agricultural Policy Congress”The event brings together leaders of farmers' organizations from the European Union, Canada, Mexico and the USA. The main topics of the talks will concern issues of agricultural policy-making in these countries and the functioning of food chains.
On October 22, in parallel with the conference, M. Dzelzkalēja will participate in a meeting of the newly elected COPA board, where the organization's strategic goals and activities for the next two years will be decided.
