Collaboration: use of plant growth regulator in winter rapeseed

The association "Farmers' Council" together with other cooperation partners begins participation in the project
“Decision-making tool for plant growth regulator use in winter rapeseed”
The project is implemented within the framework of the “Latvian Rural Development Programme 2014-2020”
Event 16. “Cooperation”
Sub-measure 16.2:
Within the framework of “Support for the development of new products, methods, processes and technologies”
Project objective: To create a clear and decision-making support tool for professional users of plant protection products for the use of winter rapeseed plant growth regulators in the autumn of the sowing year, based on crop development and the amount of accumulated heat during the autumn growth period.
Since it has not been determined in Latvia when to use which plant growth regulator in rapeseed to obtain the best results (for example, to improve winter hardiness or ensure a higher yield), the data obtained during the project will help every rapeseed grower choose the most appropriate plant growth regulator or, conversely, make a decision not to use it.
Due to the lack of research, distributors of plant protection products and also consultants are unable to provide appropriate recommendations, as a result of which the farmer is often unable to make an objective decision. End users will be offered a unique program – a tool on the computer, where by entering the amount of heat accumulated by winter rapeseed in a specific field, they will be given a justification to choose to use a strong, medium or weak plant growth regulator or not to use it at all, which is in line with the basic principles of integrated pest management.
During the project, industrial trials with 24 variants have been set up - with different sowing times and different doses of plant growth regulators. In turn, practical trials have been set up on the farms of the project's cooperation partners, linking them with meteorological data. Based on the obtained database, the programmer will create an easy-to-use tool for counting heat days and making decisions.
