PITSTOP+ project
Project “Pitstop +” – precise micronutrient feeding for dairy cows during the transition period.
As the productivity of dairy cows increases, so do the demands for high-quality feed rations. During the transition period, which includes 2-3 weeks before and 100 days after calving, cows are unable to absorb the necessary nutrients in the amount they consume. The lack of microelements causes economic losses, worsens animal welfare and resource economy, climate impact and environmental burden. Using IT technology services and data integration, it is possible to carry out individual and limited feeding of minerals. Cows are identified using electronic ear tags. The project will study the impact of precise feeding of cows on the reproduction, health and production indicators of the herd.
As part of the project, trials will be conducted on dairy farms in Latvia, Lithuania and Germany.
The lead partner of the project is Organe Institute ApS (Denmark)
Partners:
– Association “Peasants' Parliament” (Latvia),
– Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (Lithuania)
– Education and Research Center of the Schleswig-Holstein Federal Chamber of Agriculture Lehr- und Versuchszentrum Futterkamp (Germany).
Project duration 2 years (01/2019 – 12/2020)
