LV Project “Popularization and promotion of renewable energy in Latvia through technology and knowledge transfer”

Bioenergy in Latvia, as in other EU countries, has become an important development direction, which is defined in strategic documents and legal acts. However, bioenergy is still an area of future development. The Farmers' Council has launched a project to stimulate biomass production for bioenergy development, effective use and application of bioenergy in Latvia.
Project objective is to promote the spread of renewable energy resources and environmental protection by developing the production and use of energy obtained from agricultural biomass in Latvia, by gathering the conclusions of top-level experts on bioenergy issues and carrying out measures to popularize bioenergy production in the Latvian agricultural sector, as well as by developing a bioenergy training center at the Teaching and Research Farm "Vecauce" of the Latvian University of Agriculture.
Project activities:
- bioenergy technology and experience transfer – Experience and knowledge transfer trips of Norwegian and Swedish experts to Latvia to inform and consult Latvian specialists. Organization of seminars in four locations in Latvia (Zemgale, Latgale, Kurzeme and Vidzeme) for potential producers, farmers and other involved and interested parties. Project conference with the participation of foreign experts for the involved parties to summarize and transfer the project conclusions to state administration institutions (venue – Riga);
- preparation of a brochure for specialists and parties potentially interested in bioenergy development on bioenergy, the brochure will be distributed to local bioenergy specialists, agricultural companies, municipalities, and agricultural educational institutions;
- developing a bioenergy training base on bioenergy production from agricultural biomass at LLU MPS “Vecauce”;
- informing the population on the potential for bioenergy production and use – mass media events; preparation and distribution of brochures to rural residents, local governments, and agricultural students;
