International forum organized by the Farmers' Parliament: "Cattle Export - Challenges and Opportunities"

This year, on December 3, the association "Farmers' Council" organizes and invites both farmers and all interested parties to attend an international forum: "Cattle Export - Challenges and Opportunities". The forum will take place at the Ozolnieki Community Center, Rīgas Street 23, Ozolnieki. Starts at 10:00.

Raimonds Jakovickis, livestock expert of the association “Farmers' Council”: "The association "Farmers' Council" together with Finnish and Estonian farmers' non-governmental organizations participate in the project "BreedExpo", with the aim of promoting cattle exports. As part of the project, we are organizing a forum so that Latvian livestock farmers can gain valuable insights and experience from other countries in cattle breeding, and our cattle will become increasingly competitive in international markets."

Kaspars Ādams, member of the board of the association “Zemnieku saeima” and head of SIA “Liellopu izsoļu nams”: "Export in meat and dairy farming has always been a significant stimulus for the development of the industry. I believe that it will also be one of the leading factors in the future, which will determine the development of the beef cattle industry in particular. Therefore, it is important for farms to understand what the future holds, what possible risks and challenges could affect both the farm and the industry in the long term. I invite both dairy farmers and beef cattle farmers to attend the conference and continue farming even more productively and efficiently with new knowledge!”

The forum will be opened by Kaspars Ādams, a member of the board of the association “Zemnieku saeima” and the head of SIA “Liellopu izsoļu nams”. The forum presentation series will be opened by Antra Briņķe, Deputy Director of the Veterinary and Food Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, informing about future challenges in the field of animal health. Next, Leena Suojala, a veterinarian at the Central Union of Farmers and Forest Owners of Finland, will talk about the use of antimicrobials in Finland and whether there is a possibility of reducing them. Tatjana Pastare, a senior expert from the Housing Supervision Department of the Food and Veterinary Service, will introduce the requirements for transporting animals. The first part of the forum will be closed by two foreign experts: Tanel Bulitko, General Manager of the Estonian Livestock Breeders’ Association, who will talk about Estonia’s experience in cattle export, while Hannu Myllymäki, Development Manager of the FABA Cooperative, will inform about Finland’s experience in cattle breeding and export.

In the second part of the forum, all attendees are invited to participate in a panel discussion, where they will be able to ask questions of interest to Kaspars Ādams, a member of the board of the association “Zemnieku Saeima” and the head of SIA “Liellopu izsoļu nams”, Tanel Bulitko, general manager of the Estonian Livestock Breeders' Association, and Hannu Myllymäki, development manager of the Finnish cooperative FABA.
