Seminar "Opportunities and things to do in a dairy farm in crisis conditions"

In cooperation with the State Rural Network and JSC “Dimela Veta Latvija”, the association “Farmers' Council” organizes and invites milk producers to the seminar “Opportunities and things to do in dairy farming in crisis conditions”, which will take place this year on November 4 in Gulbene, in the 3rd floor hall of the Gulbene County Council, Ābeļu Street 2. The seminar starts at 10:00.

Juris Cīrulis, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Association "Farmers' Council" and owner of the "Mežacīruļi" farm: "There is currently a milk crisis in Latvia. The good news is that the crisis is not eternal, but the bad news is that we do not know when it will end. We have an example of how the Latvian state acted during the crisis, and farmers now have to do exactly the same thing – consolidate all expenses, determine a completely different, economical management style, and introduce huge savings. Farms have already done this, but we hope that the seminar could create new ideas on how to save and thus survive the crisis more successfully. We hope that Dimela Vet specialists will point out the tools to do this. I invite every dairy farmer to participate in the seminar and prepare in advance the current production issues for their farm."

.

JSC “Dimela Veta Latvija” leading animal welfare specialist and dairy farm auditor Dr. Vita Būde – Gaile: "Until now, we have only used milk monitoring sheets issued by the LDC on farms. This was essentially the only document with which to track results over the year and compare them with previous periods. Right now, the most important thing is to learn and use in practice several new formulas and perform calculations that will help us more accurately track the results of our dairy farm. In the seminar, we will learn how to correctly "interpret" the results of calculations in order to use the information obtained to make smart decisions. We will also discuss and learn to recognize those everyday situations in herd management that may cause losses to the owner."

.

At the seminar, the management of the association "Farmers' Council" will inform about support payments to farmers (direct payments, greening and state support), planned support measures for agricultural enterprises, as well as current changes in legislation (Protection Zones Law, Hunting Law, Construction Law, etc.).

.

In turn, a representative of JSC "Dimela Veta Latvija" will inform about how to act in a milk crisis situation in order to maintain the viability of the farm. Milk producers will be informed about what can be done on a dairy farm at the moment and what definitely cannot. Also, those present will be introduced to the actions of German farmers in a crisis situation, when the cost price exceeds the price of milk, and other topical issues.

.

The seminar will be attended by the management of the association “Farmers' Council” and the leading animal welfare specialist and dairy farm auditor of JSC “Dimela Veta Latvija”, Dr. Vita Būde – Gaile.
