ZSA educates farmers about current issues in seminars
On October 9 and 10, the Farmers' Council (ZSA) association organized seminars on topics that are very relevant to farmers at the exhibition complex "Rāmava" during the agricultural exhibition "Agricultural Equipment. Farmstead. Breed Rabbit 2015" - “Returning land to agricultural production” and “Cow feeding solutions in crisis conditions”.
In the first part of the seminars, the audience could get acquainted with the recommendations and opinions of industry experts, while in the panel discussion, farmers shared their practical experience. The topics of the first seminar were devoted to issues of overgrowth (bush) removal, care and maintenance practices of land reclamation systems, environmentally friendly land reclamation solutions, as well as proper field fertilization.
Agricultural land is one of the most important resources of the state, which should be handled responsibly and economically, therefore it is important that every free hectare that can be used for production is cultivated and managed. Returning overgrown areas to agricultural production is not an easy process, therefore it is very useful to have the opportunity to get practical advice from colleagues who have already accumulated such experience.", This is how Juris Lazdiņš, the chairman of the board of the Latvian Association of Artists, speaks about the importance of the exhibition.
The second seminar focused on feeding dairy cows in times of crisis. Farmers also learned about the direct payments planned for 2016.
ZSA Board Vice Chairman Juris Cīrulis: “Since August of last year, the tension in the dairy farming sector has not diminished. A large part of dairy producers are still in a crisis situation, therefore, optimizing herd maintenance has become even more relevant. This makes it possible to both reduce the cost of milk production and improve the quality of animal feed. In order for dairy farmers to operate at full capacity, the milk purchase price should be 25 cents per liter of milk, which is unfortunately not possible. I believe that, in a crisis situation, positive examples of optimizing the cost of milk production are very important. It is necessary to both listen and share examples of good farming.”
The seminar was organized in collaboration with: SIA AML, Exhibition Complex “Rāmava”.
