The seminar-forum of the association “Zemnieku Saeima” “Who has better silage – Latvians, Estonians or Finns?!” was held.
On May 15, the seminar-forum “Who has better silage – Latvians, Estonians or Finns?!” was held at the Vidzeme Technical School of Technology and Design.
Dr. agr. Iveta Gūtmane, agronomist at SIA “Latvijas Šķirnes Sēklas”, spoke about the impact of agricultural technology on the yield and quality of grassland.
Kristiina Mars, silage specialist at the Estonian Chamber of Agriculture and Commerce, spoke about Estonia's experience in grassland and corn cultivation, as well as fertilization trials.
Ainis Lagzdiņš, Professor at the Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences of the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technology (LBTU), spoke about the (non-)impact of silage production and storage on water quality.
Meanwhile, Anna Okkonen, project manager at Finnish agricultural consulting company ProAgria, shared insights gained from the project's pilot farms in Finland.
The second part of the seminar-forum included a discussion on silage preparation and storage. The discussion was attended by Indulis Ieviņš, head of SIA “MPS Vecauce”, Jānis Ločmelis, chairman of the council of LPKS “Piena loģistika”, Gints Gžibovskis, owner of the horse “Lācīši”, and Jānis Mūrmanis, owner of the horse “Murķīši”.
