On September 25th, an in-person seminar/field day on forage was held.
On September 25, the association “Zemnieku Saeima” in cooperation with the LBTU LPTF Institute of Agriculture at the Skrīveri Food Complex organized a seminar and field day “Good grassland – good roughage. Which mixtures to choose?! News from the LBTU Institute of Agriculture.”
Baiba Lūse, representative of SIA “Skrīveru Food Plant”, provided a brief insight into the history and current operations of the Skrīveru Food Plant.
Sarmīte Rancāne, leading researcher at the Latvian University of Technology LPTF, spoke about the demonstrations of perennial herbaceous and legume varieties bred and widely grown in Latvia. PRESENTATION
Dr. agronomist Iveta Gūtmane from SIA “Latvijas Šķirnes sējas” spoke about the yield and quality of herbaceous mixtures depending on the proportion of species and sowing rate. PRESENTATION
Ieva Krakopa, a nutrition specialist at IK “IK konsultācijas”, provided insight into the results of silage analyses. PRESENTATION
Pēteris Dambergs, the manager of SIA “A Teams Solutions”, talked about the most common silage making mistakes and challenges made by farmers. PRESENTATION
Agrita Švarta, leading researcher at LBTU LPTF, and Anda Rūtenberga, head of the LBTU LPTF Plant Variety SIN Center, spoke about the effectiveness of wood ash in regulating soil pH levels for field crops. PRESENTATION1 PRESENTATION 2
Finally, the participants toured the Institute of Agriculture's experimental fields for animal feed production.
The seminar was led by Iveta Grudovska, a crop production expert from the association "Zemnieku Saeima".
The event was organized within the framework of the Central Baltic Sea Region Cross-Border Cooperation Programme project “Sustainable Silage” No. CB0100103
